SHEIK KARIM-UL MAKHDUM MOSQUE - The Oldest Existing Mosque in the Philippines

The Sheik Karim-Ul Makhdum Mosque is located at Tubig-Indangan (Boheh Indingan in Sinama Dialect), Simunul, Tawi-Tawi. It is said to be the oldest existing mosque in the Philippines and built by an Arab trader Sheik Karim Makhdum in 1380. Sheik Makhdum introduced Islam in the Philippines and also supervised the construction of this mosque. His remains are buried in the mosque’s premises. The Republic Act 10573 had declared this mosques as the national historical landmark

The original structure of the mosque remained standing for around 600 years.
Four wooden pillars of the original structure still stand inside the mosque.

 Sheik Makhdum's Tomb, the largest tomb in town.

 When you visit the mosque, you should also visit the tomb of Sheik Karim-Ul Makhdum. It's just a a few meters away from the mosque. Accordingly, visitors can make a wish in this tomb. One can also get some soil from this tomb because for the good vibes purposes.
